Usability of remote monitoring in pregnancy monitoring
Maximum of 15 weeks. Have experienced a late miscarriage
You will have access to a smart watch
Our app will be installed on your smartphone (ios or android)
The aim of our study is to develop a remote monitoring system for the use of maternity care to monitor the progress of pregnancy and identify abnormalities. The research is funded by the Academy of Finland and is carried out in cooperation with the Department of Nursing Science of the University of Turku, the Department of Future Technologies and the Women's Clinic of Turku University Hospital. At the moment, we are looking at the functionality and usability of a long-term remote monitoring system for monitoring the course of pregnancy and identifying possible abnormalities. In addition, we investigate the association between antenatal and postnatal attachment, pregnancy-related anxiety, loneliness, depressive symptoms and the parameters followed by remote monitoring.
The research is carried out as a supplement to normal pregnancy monitoring, i.e. each participant normally visits her own maternity clinic and follows the instructions of the public health nurse/midwife. Participants will be given a smart watch that should be used as full-time as possible during pregnancy and three months after delivery. The smart watch registers the user's physical activity, sleep duration and quality, and heart rate. Participants will be asked to respond to short daily questions about their wellbeing via a smartphone app they will receive. In addition, some questionnaires will be sent to the participants via the app a couple of times during the study period. Participants will also have access to a blood pressure monitor for the study period and are requested to record the measured values in the smartphone app at least once a week. At the start of the study, the researchers will meet each participant personally for the smart watch and application deployment. The study does not require additional visits to maternity care or incurs costs for the participant. At the end of the study, the participant may keep the smart watch. The participant has the right to withdraw her participation in the study at any time.
